PRE-DIABETES AND POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PCOS)
 A woman with Insulin-Resistance-linked Pre-Diabetes is also at greater risk of developing the hormonal imbalance called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a major cause of menstrual irregularity and infertility. This condition is also known as polycystic ovaries, Sclerocystic Ovarian Disease, Stein-Leventhal Syndrome and Polycystic Ovarian Disease.
Insulin Resistance creates an excess of glucose and insulin in the blood stream, which, as well as increasing the risk of Pre-Diabetes, can also upset the delicate balance of a woman's hormones. One effect is an increase in the male hormone testosterone, which may prevent ovulation and remove any possibility of becoming pregnant. Overweight and obese women are particularly prone to PCOS. But they do not have a monopoly of this disorder as females of normal weight and even those who are lean can also suffer from Polycystic Overian Syndrome.
